II.246] framed poster by Andy Warhol brings the subject of Joseph Beuys into a ready-to-hang wooden frame. The original work is associated with Warhol’s 1980 output; its artistic significance lies in the way he reimagined the subject through graphic image-making.

About the Artwork: Meaning & Analysis

Warhol portrayed fellow artist Joseph Beuys after photographing him in 1979. Beuys’s performances and theories of social sculpture differed markedly from Warhol’s world of celebrity and commercial images; the portraits acknowledge an exchange between two influential postwar approaches to art.

This numbered variation invites attention to the point where a sourced photograph becomes a graphic surface rather than a straightforward record.

Visual Composition and Artistic Details

Beuys faces the viewer wearing his characteristic brimmed felt hat. Against Warhol’s more familiar neon portraiture, these images often depend on inverted tones, softened transitions and restrained contrast, making the gaze and hat unusually prominent. In this catalogue-numbered version, the relationship between the source picture and its graphic rendering is part of the individual plate’s identity.

The identifier F. & S. It helps distinguish it from other Warhol works with similar subjects or titles.

Styling the Joseph Beuys Framed Print

This Andy Warhol framed wall art suits design studios, libraries and galleries focused on conceptual and postwar art.
