II.129] framed poster by Andy Warhol brings the subject of Ladies and Gentlemen into a ready-to-hang wooden frame. The original work is associated with Warhol’s 1975 output; its artistic significance lies in the way he reimagined the subject through graphic image-making.

About the Artwork: Meaning & Analysis

The Ladies and Gentlemen project portrays transgender women and drag performers from New York, including sitters connected with the Gilded Grape in Manhattan. Warhol photographed numerous individuals and translated the resulting Polaroids into a large portrait series concerned with visibility, performance, self-fashioning and personal presence. The precise name of the sitter cannot be established from the catalogue number alone, and this description does not assign an unverified identity.

The portfolio challenges the assumption that only already-famous faces deserve large-scale portrait treatment, while also raising complicated questions about artistic authorship and representation.

Visual Composition and Artistic Details

Areas of saturated colour and loose, sometimes deliberately displaced contours interact with the sitter’s photographic likeness. The treatment emphasizes individual expression while making clear that a portrait is also a constructed public image. In this catalogue-numbered version, the relationship between the source picture and its graphic rendering is part of the individual plate’s identity.

The identifier F. & S. II.129 refers to this specific work or portfolio version in the original catalogue. It helps distinguish it from other Warhol works with similar subjects or titles.

Styling the Ladies and Gentlemen Framed Print

This Andy Warhol framed wall art suits expressive modern living rooms, portrait galleries and spaces that welcome art with a social and cultural story.
