II.28] by Andy Warhol brings Marilyn Monroe’s famous publicity portrait, with curled hair and a direct smile into the unmistakable visual world of Pop Art. Her carefully lit face, waved blond hair and emphasized lips evoke the manufactured glamour of Hollywood publicity. The subject offers a distinctive way to explore the relationship between fame, beauty, repetition and celebrity mythology. This poster is designed for contemporary wall display, with the image itself remaining the focal point.

About the Artwork and Marilyn Monroe

Warhol first developed his Marilyn imagery following Monroe’s death in 1962. The 1967 print portfolio returned to the publicity photograph from the film Niagara, multiplying a single recognisable face through radically different colour combinations. The precise repetition of a familiar face is paired with deliberately unexpected colour, showing how an image can be both instantly recognisable and newly expressive.

Composition and colour: This catalogue-numbered image belongs to the 1967 portfolio of repeated Marilyn portraits. Across the group, changes in colour reshape the mood while preserving the same unmistakable smile and hairstyle. The subject and design make an expressive addition to a thoughtfully chosen gallery wall, whether displayed alone or with other examples of twentieth-century graphic art.

Why this image matters: The subject is not simply decoration. It offers a way to consider the relationship between fame, beauty, repetition and celebrity mythology. Warhol’s approach treats images that viewers may already know as material for a fresh visual encounter, where cropping, colour, typography or repetition can reshape their meaning.

Premium Matte Poster Paper

Your poster is produced on smooth, heavyweight uncoated paper with a non-reflective finish.
