II.404] by Andy Warhol brings astronaut Buzz Aldrin standing on the Moon in a spacesuit into the unmistakable visual world of Pop Art. The reflective visor, bulky suit and lunar equipment preserve the documentary image even as unexpected colour gives it a fantastic quality. The subject offers a distinctive way to explore the first Moon landing as a shared media event and modern cultural memory. This framed poster is designed for contemporary wall display, with the image itself remaining the focal point.

About the Artwork and Moonwalk

Warhol’s 1987 Moonwalk portfolio translates a photograph taken by Neil Armstrong of astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the lunar surface during Apollo 11 in 1969 into an image of bright colour and graphic contrast. It joins the history of photography with the history of popular spectacle. The bulky spacesuit and lunar equipment remain recognisable, while layered colour makes the historical image seem almost cinematic.

Composition and colour: The bulky spacesuit and lunar equipment remain recognisable, while layered colour makes the historical image seem almost cinematic. The subject and design make an expressive addition to a thoughtfully chosen gallery wall, whether displayed alone or with other examples of twentieth-century graphic art.

Why this image matters: The subject is not simply decoration. It offers a way to consider the first Moon landing as a shared media event and modern cultural memory. Warhol’s approach treats images that viewers may already know as material for a fresh visual encounter, where cropping, colour, typography or repetition can reshape their meaning.

Premium Framed Poster

Bring this artwork straight to your wall in a ready-to-hang framed presentation.
