II.17] by Andy Warhol brings a repeated grid of small portraits of ten modern artists into the unmistakable visual world of Pop Art. The regular array turns recognisable people into a kaleidoscopic pattern; the portraits operate together as both individuals and graphic units. The subject offers a distinctive way to explore the art world making an image of itself. This framed poster is designed for contemporary wall display, with the image itself remaining the focal point.

About the Artwork and Portraits Of The Artists

Warhol’s Portraits of the Artists was created for the 1967 Ten from Leo Castelli project. It brought together images of Warhol and nine other artists represented by the New York dealer, turning artists themselves into a repeated graphic pattern. A grid of faces makes individuality and repetition coexist: it is a group portrait that also looks like an image from mass production.

Composition and colour: A grid of faces makes individuality and repetition coexist: it is a group portrait that also looks like an image from mass production. The subject and design make an expressive addition to a thoughtfully chosen gallery wall, whether displayed alone or with other examples of twentieth-century graphic art.

Why this image matters: The subject is not simply decoration. It offers a way to consider the art world making an image of itself. Warhol’s approach treats images that viewers may already know as material for a fresh visual encounter, where cropping, colour, typography or repetition can reshape their meaning.

Premium Framed Poster

Bring this artwork straight to your wall in a ready-to-hang framed presentation.
