II.336A] framed poster by Andy Warhol brings the subject of Queen Elizabeth II Royal Edition into a ready-to-hang wooden frame. The original work is associated with Warhol’s 1985 output; its artistic significance lies in the way he reimagined the subject through graphic image-making.

About the Artwork: Meaning & Analysis

The Reigning Queens portfolio presented four women who held ruling power in their own right: Elizabeth II, Beatrix, Margrethe II and Ntombi Twala. Warhol worked from official photographic imagery and transformed familiar images of state authority into luminous Pop Art, linking monarchy to the culture of widely reproduced celebrity faces. Based on an official photographic likeness, this portrait draws attention to how the same royal face travelled through photographs, stamps and news images long before Warhol reworked it. The Royal Edition is a historically distinct version of the original Warhol print portfolio; the designation in the artwork title identifies that source version.

The catalogue suffix A places this image within the Royal Edition group of the original portfolio, so the variant is historically distinct even though the subject remains the same.

Visual Composition and Artistic Details

This work depicts Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Jewellery, ceremonial clothing and the facial contours of an official portrait are reframed by blocks of strong colour. This contrast between formal pose and energetic printmaking lies at the centre of the series. In this catalogue-numbered version, the relationship between the source picture and its graphic rendering is part of the individual plate’s identity.

The identifier F. & S. II.336A refers to this specific work or portfolio version in the original catalogue. It helps distinguish it from other Warhol works with similar subjects or titles.

Styling the Queen Elizabeth II Royal Edition Framed Print

This Andy Warhol framed wall art suits formal sitting rooms, fashion-led spaces and polished modern gallery walls.
